Types of Electric Toothbrushes
Sonic toothbrushes
Sonic toothbrushes have vibrating brush heads and are more effective at removing plaque than manual toothbrushes. Sonic toothbrushes quickly clean your teeth and gums because of their high frequency of vibrations. They also simultaneously massage the salivary glands while cleaning, increasing the saliva flow and further cleaning your teeth. Sonic toothbrushes have higher speeds than their oscillating rotary counterparts. Sonic brushes reach up to 30,000 strokes per minute, whereas Rotary brushes reach about a fourth of that. Rotary brushes have their own advantages, though. Speaking of which…
Oscillating rotary toothbrushes
The bristles on an oscillating rotary toothbrush are arranged in a circle giving them iconic round heads. They rotate these heads using an electric motor to clean your teeth. Their stroke speeds range from 2,500 to 7,500 strokes per minute, and their motion mixes the saliva, water, and toothpaste to clean effectively. Rotary brushes, unfortunately, may feel a little harsh on the gums.
